On the 10th of December, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was formally adopted, a moment when nations stood together and affirmed the dignity and worth of every human being. It is a date now observed around the world as Human Rights Day.

The Nairobi Coffee and Tea Company has over one hundred years of history selecting and buying the finest quality coffee beans from around the world. With over a century of recorded blending recipes, we felt inspired to look back at some of our most celebrated coffees.  We chose 1957 as it marks the beginning of a new era of prosperity in Europe. Rising from the devastation of two brutal wars, leaders sought a lasting peace built on partnership, prosperity and shared purpose. Their vision became reality in March of that year when the Treaty of Rome was signed at the Palazzo dei Conservatori on Capitoline Hill, one of the most historic and storied sites in the Eternal City. It was here that the foundations of the European Union were laid.

The 1957 Continental Blend is a coffee crafted from exceptional beans sourced from some of the world’s most sought-after coffee farms. This highly confidential recipe, known only to a select few, has been enjoyed by generations of people that love their coffee. Our century old recipe books contain many handwritten and closely guarded
methods for roasting and blending coffees, and among them sits the 1925 Original
House Blend.

It bears no resemblance to the rapidly mass-produced coffees of today. Even a
century ago, this blend was known as a patiently crafted roast, made with time, care,
and a devotion to flavour.
Revived from its original notes, the 1925 blend offers a rare glimpse into what coffee
truly tasted like in the Roaring Twenties.

This extraordinary decade gave the world the iconic Art Deco style, vibrant dances
such as the Charleston, booming industries, and legendary athletes. Clearly, there
had to be something remarkable in their coffee, and there is. The 1925 House Blend
carries a refined depth, with a warmly invigorating aroma and flavours that speak of
quiet sophistication.

This is a limited-edition roast, a rare opportunity to taste real history. Few coffee

The Nairobi Coffee and Tea Company was founded over one hundred years ago, and ever since that time we have been cultivating and recording recipes, some of which have gone on to become iconic blends.

Now in our second century of roasting coffee, we felt compelled to revisit our best-selling creations from an earlier era. With that sense of curiosity, we turned to our 1940s collection.

Our 1945 blend is inspired by the taste and aroma of Blue Mountain coffee. It was originally created for the dual purpose of honouring Victory in Europe and marking the formal incorporation of The Nairobi Coffee and Tea Company, which makes it a rather special coffee indeed.

The taste and aroma of 1940s coffees were very different from today’s beverages. This gentle approach to blending a particular selection of beans produces a refinement that leaves you completely satisfied, uplifted and ready for the day ahead.

What we have lovingly recreated can be summed up in a single word. The 1945 Blue Mountain Blend tastes like serenity after victory. We hope you enjoy this coffee as much as we enjoyed bringing it back to life.
